Dog Boarding & Daycare FAQ
Is a temperament assessment required?
New guests are required to attend a pre-arranged 1 hr temperament assessment on their playstyle & sociability. On 'passing' the assessment, 1st time boarders are encouraged to join us for Daycare prior to boarding to get accustomed to a new environment.
What is being assessed - Dogs who display aggressive tendencies or who cause disharmony (including excessive mounting & dominance) during playtime will cause stress to the pack, & be found unsuitable for daycare and boarding.
Must my dog be neutered/ spayed?
Non-neutered male dogs will be allowed in group play as long as they do not cause disharmony (excessive mounting/ fights) during playtime. Female guests who come into heat are not allowed into daycare for a period of 3 weeks to a month.
Guests that display occassional excessive mounting behaviour or excessive marking behavior may be required to wear a manner band/diaper. Guests that display overtly dominant behaviour may be separated from the pack where required.
What shots does my pet need?
To attend the assessment, all dogs need to be up-to-date (within the last 12 mth) on the 5 CORE vaccines (Canine Distemper, Adenovirus, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus & Leptospira). To keep everyone safe, BFF requires an extra vaccine - Bordetella/Kennel Cough - for all our daycare and boarding guests. Parasite & heartworm prevention is required too.
Can BFF administer medication?
We are able to administer vet-prescribed medication (except insulin injections).
Boarding guests, especially senior dogs and small breed dogs, are encouraged to build up their immunity 2 weeks ahead of boarding with good quality supplements & probiotics, & have sufficient rest.
What is BFF’s Concierge Service?
BFF staff provides 'live-in' care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. 24/7 CCTV access is available for boarding guests. After-hours (7pm-8am) services & emergency check-in/out are available on request. Charges apply.
Is BFF open on public holidays?
The hotel remains open 365 days a year for boarding, however our office is closed on key public holidays & we do not accept Check-ins & Check-outs on key holidays. Daycare may be closed on days surrounding key holidays.
Why is my dog tired after Boarding?
Hotel life can be very exciting & some dogs play for a good portion of the day & return home exhausted but happy. They may sleep a lot in the 1 to 2 days that follow, & experience some soreness. We call it the BFF Hangover!
Why is my dog thirsty after Daycare?
Some dogs play continuously & hard, & drink less frequently as a result. Over excitement leads to panting, resulting in thirst. On returning home, encourage your pet to drink slowly & in small amounts at a time, to prevent vomiting.
Will my dog go on walks with the pack?
We schedule a morning & evening individual/pack walk as long as weather permits. Most pets, however, get more than their fill of exercise indoors, They are engaged through the day, socialising, running & playing in temperature-control environment. We provide extra walks on request (chargeable).
Can meals be prepared for my pet?
You are encouraged to bring your pet's food - kibbles, raw, cooked - to keep him on his regular diet to prevent stomach upset. Please attach meal instructions. We provide cooking service on request (chargeable). Alternatively, BFF offers Origi-7 air-dried organic kibbles, made with 100% real meat at $3-8/meal.
Can I bring my pet belongings?
Compulsory items to bring are collar/harness & name tag. For boarding, you may bring along toys, bed & your used t-shirt, Toys must not be smaller than a tennis ball as there are pet residents of various sizes. Please refrain from bringing valuable or irreplaceable items. Label all belongings well.
Do dog fights happen at play group?
Although rare, dog fights can still occur. Our staff monitor interaction & play to ensure all dogs engage in a friendly manner. Yet, some dogs like to play a lot & wrestle so scratches & injuries can sometimes happen. Having pet insurance is good practice. Dogs that cause fights will be placed separately from the pack.
